School Council

What is a School Council?

A School Council is a group of pupils who are elected to represent the views of all pupils with the aim to improve their School.

How are school Councillors elected?

Voting takes place in every classroom, for the children who have campaigned to be elected to the School Council.

What makes a good School Council?

A good School Council is one that represents the views of all children and gets things done. These are some of the things that make our School Council effective:-

Regular meetings

Good communication between Representatives and their class.

Younger children being supported by an older buddy.

What does the School Council do?

The School Council meets (with Miss Wildridge) on alternate Thursday lunchtimes, so valuable lesson time is not missed, to discuss and sort out problems and ideas. These may include school lunches or ideas for fundraising events. Members of the School Council will be responsible for carrying out ideas that they have agreed, such as planning charity events, researching, costing and purchasing equipment, meeting with the head teacher, collecting and putting forward views of other children within the School.

What are the aims of Hartburn Primary School Council for 2016/17?

Our school council wants to make sure that every child in our school feels happy and safe at playtime.

Our school council wants to encourage reading for pleasure by creating outdoor quiet, calm reading areas for all to enjoy.

Does the School Council get things done?

Good School Councils do get things done.

In 2015/16 we organised a charity Christmas jumper day –which raised £290. With this money we bought new outdoor toys and board games for all classes for indoor playtimes.

So far in 2016/17 we have raised £390 from the annual Christmas jumper day. This bought more new outdoor toys for KS1.

We have also organised an Easter egg raffle to raise money for Outdoor Reading Areas in KS1 and KS2.

Hartburn Primary School Council believes that every pupil has a voice and they constantly work hard to support and better our school. So if you have any ideas you would like to share, or any other suggestions for fundraising activities, please don’t hesitate to contact your class Councillor.
