Safeguarding

At Hartburn Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children.  We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and to achieve this we ensure the continuous development and improvement of robust safeguarding processes and procedures.

We have a number of policies in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed below.  All adults who work in school have a responsibility to read and understand all safeguarding policies including online safety.

All staff and Governors are expected to read and adhere to the DfE guidance: Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities we sometimes need to share information and work in partnership with external agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.  In the majority of cases we will ensure that our concerns about children are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare and well-being.  In this instance, we will follow procedure and make referrals to the appropriate agencies for support.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) are:

Mrs Lindsey Wain (Acting Headteacher) – DSL

Mrs Joanne Brown (Assistant Headteacher) – DSL

Mrs Zoe Holdsworth (Assistant Headteacher) – DSL

Mr Mark Whitecross (Key Stage 1 Leader) – DDSL

Miss Kat Denton (Year 3&4 Team Leader) – DDSL

Miss Lindsey Smith (Wraparound Care Lead) – DDSL

The designated governor for safeguarding is Mrs Claire Berry

Operation Encompass

As part of our safeguarding procedures, we have a direct link with Cleveland Police, who provide us with information in respect of any Domestic Violence incident where a child is present or a resident at the address.  Information will be shared through normal safeguarding reporting where it is identified that a child or young person may be at risk following this.

Policies and Procedures:
